Petoskey News-Review, November 1939:
Funeral services for Alexander Hartung will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the home at 598 East Main street. Rev. Arthur Cruickshank, of the Presbyterian church will have charge of the services. Interment will be made in Lake View cemetery.
Mr. Hartung passed away at his home late Saturday afternoon. He had been ill for a week but his condition was not considered serious. His death came as a shock to his many friends.
He was born at Lark's Lake on November 25, 1891. On September 19, 1912, he was united in marriage to Miss Louisa Davis. For about eight years they engaged in farming near Good Hart and in 1920 came to Harbor Springs where they had since made their home. He was a member of the Harbor Springs fire department and had been engaged in carpenter work since coming to this city.
Surviving are: the wife; a daughter, Mrs. Carl Webster, of Grand Rapids; a son, Howard; a daughter, Joyce, at home; four brothers and four sisters, David Hartung, of Pellston, George and Elmer Hartung, of Harbor Springs, and Harry Hartung, of Cincinnati, Mrs. Pearl Bonter, (Elsie), Mrs. William Chellis, (Kate) and Mrs. Susie Stark who live near Pellston and Mrs. Charles Whitehill, (Mabel) of Harbor Springs.
