[edit] Obituary

Petoskey News-Review, Thursday, December 7, 1967:

Arthur Sabin, 82

Arthur Sabin, 82, resident of Harbor Springs for the past 45 years, died Monday Dec 4, 1967 at the Veterans Hospital in Ann Arbor after a two-month illness.

Mr. Sabin was born in Ohio on June 30, 1885. He came to Harbor Springs via Alanson and in Dec 1925 he married Dorothy Troup.

Mr. Sabin, a retired farmer, is remembered as a hard working man of the soil. A quiet-mannered man, his interests during retirement continued with concern for current events. He read newspapers often, enjoyed long walks and found relaxation in a game of solitaire. His reserved manner gave way at family gatherings, where he would join heartily into the conversations.

A friend warmly recalled Mr. Sabin's reluctance as he grew older to reveal his true age to anyone. He would playfully reply with different answers to inquiries about his age. He felt that his age was his own business the friend surmised.

Survivors include three sons; Robert of Belleville, Gordon of Alanson, and Wallace of Harbor Springs; two daughters, Mrs. Francis (Wahneta) Conklin of Belleville and Elizabeth Sabin of Harbor Springs, a brother, Harold and a sister Mary Sabin of Alanson; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren;

Funeral services were conducted in Harbor Springs on Friday, Dec 8 with Rev. Raymond Walker of the Wesleyan Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery.
