August Wilhelm Heinrich Clemens Schwerdtfeger was born 30 September 1894 at Sievershausen, Hanover, Germany.
His parents are Carl Clemens Heinrich August Schwerdtfeger and Caroline Charlotte Amalie Melching.
His siblings are Ernestine Caroline Hermine Schwerdtfeger, Caroline Luise Christiane Schwerdtfeger, Frieda Wilhelmine Amalie Schwerdtfeger, Carl Heinrich August Schwerdtfeger, Louise Marie Wilhelmine Schwerdtfeger and Caroline Wilhelmine Anna Johanne Schwerdtfeger.
He married first Cleo Isabelle Wright on 17 February 1927 at Petoskey, Emmet, Michigan.
They had a son, James Herbert Schwerdtfeger.
He married second Lorentz A. Madsen on 15 December 1946 at Harbor Springs, Emmet, Michigan.
August died on 30 July 1962 at Harbor Springs, Emmet, Michigan. He is buried at the Lakeview Cemetery in Harbor Springs,

Petoskey News-Review, Tuesday, July 31, 1962:
Services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Harbor Springs Presbyterian Church for August H. Schwerdtfeger, 87, Harbor Springs businessman who died unexpectedly yesterday at his home, 553 E. Main-st. He had been in failing health for some time. Dr. David L. Ferguson will officiate and interment will be in Lakeview cemetery.
He was born at Hanover, Germany on September 30, 1894 and come to Northern Michigan with his parents as a small child. He was graduated from Harbor Springs high school in 1914 and later graduated from Ferris Institute school of Pharmacy. He worked eight years as a pharmacist before joining his brother, Carl in the Harbor Springs Furniture Co. in 1922. He became sole owner of the business in 1949, and sold the business at an auction on Saturday.
He was married to Miss Cleo Wright of Harbor Springs in 1927 and she preceded him in death in 1944. In 1946 he married Mrs. Lorraine Angell who survives, at Harbor Springs.
He was a life member of F. and A.M. Lodge 378, a member of the Harbor Springs Kiwanis Club, the Presbyterian church and the Smith-Hoover Post American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; a son, James of Kalamazoo; a step-son, Dale Angell of E. Lansing; and three grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. August (Ernestine) Herzog of Chicago, Mrs. Carl Buettner and (Miss) Louise Schwerdtfeger, both of Petoskey; several nieces and nephews.
The body is at the Erwin Funeral Parlors where friends may call tonight from 7:30-9 p.m.
