Charles Jackson Hitchings was born 27 March 1900 at Petoskey, Emmet, Michigan.
His parents are James Jackson Hitchings and Augusta Christina Melching.

He married Beatrice V. Chattaway on 15 August 1924 at Petoskey, Emmet, Michigan.
Their children are Charles J. Hitchings, Jr., Arthur J. Hitchings, Reva Elizabeth Hitchings, Gerald Eland Hitchings and Margaret Ellen Hitchings.
He died in 21 April 1971 at Petoskey, Emmet, Michigan. He is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey.

Charles J. Hitchings, sr., 71, native of Petoskey died yesterday at Lockwood-MacDonald Hospital where he had been a patient for two days.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Stone Funeral Home. Rev. Dale McAlvey will officiate and interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
He was born in Petoskey March 27, 1900 and attended Petoskey Public Schools.
On August 15, 1924 he married the former Beatrice Chattaway and she preceded him in death in 1953.
Mr. Hitchings was a member of the Petoskey Police Department from 1922-25.
Then he was employed by the former Chattaway Grocery Store as a meat department manager. In 1937 he owned his own store, "Charlie's Home Market" and from 1942 until 1945 he operated Petoskey Garbage Collection.
Mr. Hitchings retired in 1953.
Survivors include three sons, Charles J., jr., of Petoskey, Arthur, of Grand Rapids and Gerald, of Flint; three daughters, Mrs. Vilnis (Reva) Atkalns, of Petoskey, Mrs. Carl (Constance) Lawrence, Grand Ledge and Christine Hitchings, of Lapeer; 14 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Von (Mildred) Smith, of Detroit and Mrs. Harry (Ruth) Starks, of Dearborn and a brother, James Hitchings, of Monroe.
Friends may call at the Stone Funeral Home beginning Saturday afternoon.
