Clifford Irvin Hill was born on 8 March, 1900 in Reis, Minnesota which is near Beltrami. At the time of his birth, Clifford's parents were farming. When he was at the age of one, his parents moved from the Reis farm to LaCrosse, Wisconsin. In 1907 they moved to Redwood Falls, Minnesota where Clifford attended school, going through grades one through six. In 1913 they moved to Lamberton, Minnesota where he attended grades seven through nine which completed his
At age 21, Clifford married Eva Thoral Skelton in Lamberton on 21 January, 1922. Soon after the marriage, Clifford and Eva moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota where he began working for the Wilson Packing Company. The residence at the time was 408 Bridge Street.
In early 1923 they moved to Revere, Minnesota, where Clifford worked for his father as general utilityman in the family automobile garage. After approximately six months of this work he moved his family back to Albert Lea, and re-entered employment with the Wilson Packing Company in the casing department. The residence was now 415 Vine Street. From this residence they moved back to 408 Bridge Street. In 1925 they moved again, this time to 513 West Main Street. The following Fall they moved to 612 Lincoln Street.
In 1929 Clifford stopped work at the Wilson Packing Plant and began selling Life Insurance for the Prudential Insurance Company. Also, in this same year, they moved to 7].8 Front Street, where they stayed about one year before moving again, this time to 1200 Clark Street. This move, being in the depression years, was an economical one, as the rent on the Front Street address was $20.00 a month, while the Clark Street address was $12.00 a month. It was at the Clark Street address that the children attended Abbott Elementary School. Vance had previously attended Ramsey Elementary School while living on Front Street.
In August, 1930 Clifford returned to work for the Wilson Packing Company only to be laid off in the Spring of 1931. He performed odd jobs about Albert Lea until August, 1931 when he once again was re-employed at the Wilson Packing Company where he stayed until his retirement on 1 June, 1966.
In 1933 they moved to 1015 Dunham Street where they lived for six years. On 21 December, 1939, they moved to a home they had purchased on 116 Second Avenue. They remained at this address until April, 1959 when they purchased and moved into their final home at 619 Garfield Avenue. Clifford had no special hobbies, except he did enjoy keeping his automobile in a clean and polished condition; the engine compartment especially was noted for its cleanliness. He also enjoyed walking. Clifford Irvin Hill died on 10 December, 1973 at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 2 days. His death was caused by a heart attack that was brought on from shoveling snow from his sidewalk in sub-zero weather. He is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Albert Lea, Minnesota.
