Dewey L. Pope, 80

Funeral services for Dewey L. Pope, 80, of Mackinaw City, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Nordman Funeral Home in Cheboygan. Rev. Raymond C. Provost Jr. will officiate and interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Mackinaw City.

Mr. Pope died Aug. 14 at Little Traverse Division of Northern Michigan Hospitals.

He was born in Oden on June 10, 1898 and married the former Lillian Patton on Sept. 22, 1923 in Charlevoix. They have resided in Mackinaw City for the past 36 years.

Mr. Pope was postmaster at Oden for several years. He also sold automobiles in Petoskey for a period of time and was employed by Parker Motor Freight. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a dockmaster at the state dock in Mackinaw City.

Mr. Pope was a veteran of World War I and a life member of the Clayton W. Murray Post No. 159, American Legion, in Mackinaw City.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Walter Pope of Mackinaw City, one daughter, Mrs James (Lorahdelle) Darrow of Mackinaw City; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Clyde Pope of Petoskey; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Gibson of Oden and Mrs. Helen Zeigler of Grand Rapids.

Friends may call at the Nordman Funeral Home in Cheboygan where the family will meet friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
