Dorman J. Robinson, 72, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Nov. 27, 2006, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends on this earth.
Dorman was born in Friendship Township on March 29, 1934, the son of Elnor (Slocum) and Lewis “Bob” Robinson. He attended Stutsmanville and Harbor Springs schools.
Dorman enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951 at the age of 17 and served during the Korean War. His time was spent mostly on destroyers, making several world cruises into the battle zone.
Dorman married Doris J. Webb on Dec. 29, 1953, in St. Clair Shores. He felt called to return to the Northern Michigan he loved in 1957 and they have resided here since. He spent most of his working years at Manthei Veneer Mill and the McLaughlin Co., with a brief stint of independent trucking.
Football and hunting were his interests beyond his family.
Dorman ministered in music that blessed many over the years at the Horton Bay United Methodist Church, where he was a member, and at monthly singspirations held in many churches in the area during the 1970s.
Dorman will be greatly missed by his wife of 53 years; his children, Charles (Cynthia), Larry (Tina), Daniel (Sherri), Lorri (Fred) Upton, Mark (Maureen), Kathy (Ted) Kehrer, Karen (Frank) Veraldi and Nathan (Heather); also by 20 grandchildren. Dorman is also survived by a sister, Audrey Jablinskey; and two brothers, Dale (Joan), Sandy (Christine) Robinson; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorman was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael John; his parents; brother, Robert; and sisters, Lavina Billiau, Betty Cease, Arbutus Robinson and Joan Thompson.
A family graveside service will be held at Northbay Cemetery, with a memorial service to celebrate his life at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Horton Bay United Methodist Church.
Donations to the church are suggested in lieu of flowers and cards.
Arrangements were handled by Winchester Funeral Home, Charlevoix.
