Inducted into the U.S. Army 5 August 1918 at Mannington, WV. He retired 23 June 1946 and lived in Fairmon, WV. Died of a heart attack. Residence at time of death was 27 Grant Drive, Riley Manor, Junction City, Kansas. He was buried at 1430 hours Friday, 14 February 1947. Chaplain S. R. Crumpton performed the service. Johnson Funeral Home prepared the arrangements. Mrs. Carl Biegert sang and was accompanied by Mrs. J.N. Day. Pallbearers were Rea Cress, David Burris, Gilbert Carey, E.G. Hansen, Curtis Cox, and John J. Hess members of the American Legion. He received full military honors. He was a veteran of both World War I and II. His rank at time of death was PVT. His military record is as follows:

  • Enlisted U.S. Army 5 August 1918 to 17 December 1918, Honorable Discharge, rank of PFC.
  • Enlisted U.S. Army 26 April 1922 to 25 April 1931, Honorable Discharge, rank of SGT, ETS.
  • Enlisted U.S. Army 26 April 1931 to 25 April 1934, Honorable Discharge, rank of PFC, ETS.
  • Enlisted U.S. Army 21 September 1939 to 30 April 1945, Honorable Discharge, randk of PVT.

Had Broken Leg February 1925.

Insurance Policy dated 16 November 1929, stated that Elias was 5' 7 1/2" tall, and was 175 pounds.

Left leg was 1" shorter than right leg.

He was stationed at Fort Lincoln, Bismark, North Dakota.

Lived at 322 East 5th Street, Junction City, Geary, Kansas.
