Petoskey News-Review, Thursday, August 14, 1986:
Erve S. Wixson, 91. longtime Springvale Township resident died Aug. 13, 1986, at his home.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Stone Funeral Home, Petoskey. The Rev. Jerry Jaquish will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Petoskey.
Mr. Wixson was born March 24, 1895, in Cheboygan, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Liesing) Wixson. He attended Cheboygan schools and then worked on the family farm and lumbered in the Upper Peninsula.
On Sept. 1, 1945, he married the former Bernice Bashaw in Petoskey. The couple made their home in Springvale Township.
Mr. Wixson worked in the lumbering and carpentry trade for approximately 70 years, retiring in 1967. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
For 26 consecutive years, Mr. Wixson was an Emmet County Commissioner and Supervisor of Springvale Township. He was also a founder of the Springvale Township Fire Department.
He was a member of Durand Lodge F.&A.M. of Petoskey; the Ivanhoe Knight Templar Commandry and a member of the Pickeral Lake Grange.
Survivors include: his wife; two sons, Clyo E. Wixson of Petoskey and John Wixson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Mrs. Marie E. Schaaf of Reston, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry and Homer C., both of Cheboygan; two sisters, Mrs. Esther Barr of Cheboygan and Mrs. Eva Ramsby of Detroit; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Charles G. Wixson.
The family suggests memorials to a charity of choice. Envelopes are available at the Stone Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday.
