E. Jean Jones, 84, of Petoskey, died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at her home in Petoskey.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Stone Funeral Home in petoskey. The Rev. David Behling and the Rev. Doug Greenway will officiate.
Jean was born on Oct. 12, 1912, in Petoskey, the daughter of Robert and Eva (Pope) Woodruff. She grew up in Petoskey and attended Petoskey schools, graduating from Petoskey High School in 1930. She entered nursing school at Highland Park General Hospital in Highland Park, Mich., in 1933. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1936.
On Feb. 14, 1936, she married Clare Jones in Petoskey, where the couple made their home. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1972.
Jean worked as a registered nurse at Little Traverse Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1973. At the time of her retirement, Jean held the position of house supervisor at the hospital.
She was a member of the Petoskey United Methodist Church.
During her lifetime, she was also a member of several nursing organizations.
She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Lewis and her husband, George R. "Dick," of Petoskey; her son, Don Woodruff Jones and his wife, Peggy Denby-Jones, of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Victoria Mazzola, Jill Borton, Jane Winterbottom and Andrew Woodruff Jones; and eight great-grandchildren. Her eighth great grandchild, Rutledge Woodruff Jones, was born on Aug. 8, 1997--their spirits passed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Little Traverse Bay or to the Petoskey Friendship Center.
Visitation will be held from noon until the time of service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey.
