Frank A. Kaniarz

Frank A. Kaniarz, died Dec. 11, 1997, in Sterling Heights.

Funeral was held 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the Chapel of E.J. Mandziuk & Son Funeral Directors in Warren. Mass of Christian Burial followed at 11 a.m. at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Detroit.

The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at the funeral home, where a parish rosary was held at 7:30 p.m. Burial took place in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Detroit.

Frank was born March 2, 1911, in Pellston, the son of Frank and Anastasia Kaniarz.

On June 19, 1948, he married the former Marian Podsada. She preceded him in death in August 1992.

Frank is survived by his children Roger (Elizabeth), Michele (Gary) Zanetti, Alan (Susan Ash,) Laurie, and Andrea (Alan Johnson); seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Frank was preceded in death by his sister, Anna Stob, in August 1997.

He was an alumnus of St. Josaphat High School in Detroit and of Wayne State University.

Frank was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II from April 1942-December 1945 in the Pacific Theater.

He taught at Pellston High School and retired from American National Insurance Co. in 1976.

Frank was a member of seven choirs in his lifetime, including Detroit's Lutnia.

He was the family historian and genealogist, and his memoirs "Frankly, The Works!" include many priceless glimpses into the family's past.

Frank was noted for his razor-sharp memory, genteel manners, musicality, friendliness, command of six languages and especially for his delicious sense of humor.

His cherished spring robins will wonder he has gone.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Lung Association or to Beaumont Hospice.
