Petoskey News-Review, December, 2000:
Herbert “Doug” Hickman, 58, of Petoskey, died Dec. 13, 2000, at his residence. Memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey. The Rev. Edward Warner will officiate.
Doug was born July 12, 1942, in Petoskey, the son of Herbert and Irene (Johnston) Hickman. He grew up and attended school in Petoskey, where he graduated from Petoskey High School in 1961.
On Aug. 10, 1963, he married the former Edith Keck in Petoskey, where they have lived.
Doug worked for Ballard’s Plumbing and Heating for 25 years and most recently had worked for Petoskey Public Schools as supervisor of maintenance for the last nine years.
He loved to hunt, fish, garden and mushroom.
He was a past member of the Bear Creek/Resort Fire Department and past member of Top O Michigan Hound Club.
Doug is survived by his wife, Edith; three children, Steven Hickman of Petoskey; Sharon Howery and her husband, Rob, of Indian River, and Kathy Hickman of Petoskey; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Ryan Howery; parents, Herb and Irene Hickman, of Petoskey; two brothers, Jerry Hickman and his wife, Joetta, of Petoskey, and Robert Hickman of Walloon Lake; sister, Iris Lesh and her husband, David, of Alanson; sister-in-law, Judy Vroman and her husband Gary, of Petoskey; and many nieces and nephews.
Contributions in memory of Doug may be made to Hospice of Little Traverse Bay. Envelopes will be available at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey.
