Jennie Warner was born Wednesday, June 22, 1881, in Fillmore, Millard, Utah, the second child and oldest daughter of Jedediah Morgan Grant Warner and Julia Russell. Jennie grew up in Fillmore, attending school there. It is said that her father had the power of healing and that when his children were sick they would always ask him for a blessing.

Jennie grew up, met and courted Rodney Carlos Ashby, son of Nathaniel Ashby and Martha Ann Truman. They were married Wednesday, January 9, 1901 in the Manti Temple. Jennie was 19 and Rodney was 20 when they were married. They had the following children, both born in Fillmore:

Rodney Truman Ashby, b. 15 Oct 1901, d. 6 Apr 1989, m. Lucille Day, 21 Jun 1928
Enid Ashby, b. 23 Dec 1903, d. 3 Feb 1962, m. George A. Anderson, 25 Jun 1925

Tragedy struck the new family when little Enid was not quite 1 year old. Jennie's husband, Rodney, died on Tuesday, November 1, 1904. With her husband's death, Jennie assumed responsibility for her small family. She began working in the offices of Millard County. She served as County recorder three times, in 1907, 1909 and 1917.

She also became active in civic groups. She was a "keeper of the swarm" of Bee Hive Girls as reported in The Progress, Friday, July 21, 1916, on page 8:

On Thursday evening of last week the "Atequa Swarm" [of the Bee Hive girls] went on a hike to the "Lone Pine" farm in the mountains east of Fillmore, where they enjoyed a camp fire supper, a shower bath and a sleepless night's rest, followed by a hurried breakfast and a bouncing trip to town. Mrs. Jennie Ashby is the keeper of this swarm, Rose Davies her assistant and the members are Myrtle Brunson, Ruby Day, Florence Lyman, Fern Ashby, Fauntella Davies, Hazel Stott, Jane McBride and Margie Warner.

At the same time she was active with the Bee Hive Girls, Jennie worked with the Young Ladies Mutual Improvement Association. In the Fillmore Ward Jennie served as a 2nd Counsellor to Francs Hatton, 1911-1913; 1st Counsellor to May Stevens, 1913-1914; 1st Counsellor to Clara M. Swallow, 1914-1916. Jennie served as President of the Fillmore Ward YLMIA from 1916-1920. Later she was called to serve in the Millard Stake YLMIA, serving as 2nd Counselor to Frances Hatton from 1931-1935. In 1939 Jennie was called to serve as 1st Counselor in the Fillmore 2nd Ward YLMIA. She served with President Esther Wasden.

Jennie also became an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. In 1931 she was elected the first President of the Emily Ray Camp of the DUP. She also served as a custodian of the State House Museum in Fillmore. She helped "keep things clean and presentable to the public."

On Thursday, November 21, 1974 , Jennie Warner Ashby died in Delta, Millard, Utah. She had been a widow for a little over 70 years. During that time she kept busy: raising and supporting her family, serving in the Church and in the community.
