John C. Cosens, 59

John C. Cosens, 59, of Petoskey, died Sept. 17, 1987, at Little Traverse Division, Northern Michigan Hospitals.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at the Stone Funeral Home, Petoskey. The Rev. Andre Schludecker, OFM will officiate and burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Petoskey.

Mr. Cosens was born Sept. 28, 1927 in Harbor Springs, the son of Ted and Justine (Duvall) Cosens. He attended school at Holy Childhood, Harbor Springs and graduated from Petoskey High School in 1945.

He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater.

On Nov. 4, 1950, he married the former Marian L. Bodzick in Petoskey. The couple have made their home here since that time.

Mr. Cosens had been employed with the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier in Petoskey for the past 30 years. He also announced the Petoskey football and basketball games on radio for several years and had been very active in Petoskey Little League program.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 2462 in Petoskey and also a member of Carl O. Weaver Post No. 192, American Legion, Petoskey.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, John M. Cosens and Jerry Cosens, both of Petoskey and James Cosens of Harbor Springs; two daughters, Teresa Cosens of Onalaska, Wis. and Patti Cosens of Petoskey; three grandchildren; two brothers, Vern Cosens of Carbondale, Colo. and Frank Cosens of Warren; three sisters, Mary Cosens of Harbor Springs, Mrs. James (Arlene) Brokaw of Bradenton, Fla. and Elaine Cosens of Lansing.

The family suggests memorials to the Emmet County Unit of the American Cancer Society. Envelopes for that purpose may be obtained at the Stone Funeral Home where friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

An Eagles Lodge of Sorrow service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday followed by a rosary at 8 p.m.
