Louis John Swiss, 89, of Cross Village, passed away April 19, 2006, at Northern Michigan Hospital.
The Mass of the Resurrection will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 21, at Holy Cross Church in Cross Village. Visitation will take place 6-8 p.m. today, Thursday, April 20, at Holy Cross Church with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Louis was born in Cross Village on Nov. 11, 1916, to John and Sophie (Kozlowski) Swiss. He attended the Cross Village school. He had worked on the family farm all of his life and had also worked for Hodgkiss and Douma Roadbuilders for 19 years, retiring in 1985.
On July 1, 1944, he married the former Wanda Zmikly at Larks Lake. He enjoyed baseball, hunting and fishing. His greatest joy was his family.
Surviving are his wife; his children, Stanley, Edward and his wife, Sherry, Arlene Godzik and her husband, Fred, Richard, Gloria Kruzel and her husband, John, Mary Kay Schlappi and her husband, Don, all from Cross Village, Louis and his wife, Rachel, of Boyne City, Ronnie and his wife, Kenya, of Petoskey; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Edward Swiss Jr.; his brothers, Walter, Steve and Frank; and his sisters, Anna, Stella and Mary.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to Bay Bluffs Medical Care Facility or Holy Cross Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
The family was served by the Schiller Funeral Home of Harbor Springs.
