Lula M. Schlappi, 81, of Oden and formerly of Harbor Springs, passed away Monday, July 8, 2002, at Northern Michigan Hospital surrounded by her family.
She was born April 15, 1921, in Joy Valley, Springvale Township, the daughter of Jacob C. and Ethel (Smith) Hickman.
On March 12, 1938, she married Forrest E. Schlappi in Harbor Springs. Together, they enjoyed more than 64 years of marriage.
Lula was the most loving wife and mother. Family was the central focus of her life. She raised 11 children and there was always enough love to go around. Lula adored kids, and her home and kitchen were always open.
In addition to her husband, Forrest, she is survived by her children, Virginia (Robert) Beair, Rosetta (Joel) Stanley, Ronald Schlappi, Timothy Schlappi, all of Petoskey, Forrest "Dick" Schlappi, Douglas (Jean) Schlappi, Donald (Mary Kay) Schlappi of Harbor Springs, Ethel Knepp of Charlevoix, and Diana (Glenn) Peebles of Grand Rapids; 28 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Herbert, John, Rolland and James Hickman; sister, Rosie Billings; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sons, Robert and Charles; and by sisters, Beatrice Hickman, Nina Daniels, Elizabeth "Mae" Dunshee; and brothers, Lawrence and Alton Hickman.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey. The Rev. Ed Warner will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Little Traverse Bay.
