Mary Catherine Lass was born to Peter and Mary "Mamie" (McGuire) Lass.
Her mother died when Mary was only twelve days old.
During her early years, Mary was raised by her uncle and aunt, Joseph and Kate (Lass) McGuire, until Mary's father remarried.
She graduated as valedictorian from Notre Dame in Mitchell, South Dakota.
Mary taught at the Rainy Vale School, which was located a short distance west of where Mary and her husband lived.
In 1970, she graduated from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota.
Mary died at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was buried beside her husband at St. John Cemetery, located a mile and a
half east-southeast of Beresford, South Dakota.
