Mildred Hoover Davis, 97

Mildred Hoover Davis, 97, died Jan. 28, 1992, at the Emmet County Medical Care Facility in Harbor Springs, where she had been a resident for the more than five years.

A graveside memorial service for family and friends will be held sometime in May with the Rev. Tom Cook of the Harbor Springs Presbyterian Church officiating. The time and date will be announced later.

Mrs. Davis was born Aug. 13, 1894, in Harbor Springs, the daughter of Henry S. Hoover and Lena Lugibihl Hoover. As a young lady, she sold flowers at the resorts and always had a special love for flowers. It became a yearly tradition for her late brother, Floyd Hoover, to send her gladioli on her birthdays.

She married Ivan J. Davis on June 6, 1913, in Harbor Springs and before his death in 1990, they observed their 77th wedding anniversary. Most of their married lives they resided in the Detroit area, returning to Harbor Springs many summers and other times during the year. They moved back permanently in the fall of 1985.

Mrs. Davis is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Virgil (Audrey) Haynes of Harbor Springs; four grandchildren, Cynthis and Roger Haynes of Harbor Springs, Lois Young and Mrs. Dennis (Joan Young) Kickhofel, both of Harper Woods; one sister-in-law, Grace Davis Wilson of Rockford; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan J. Davis of Harbor Springs; two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Kathryn Davis) Young and Irene J. Davis, both of Harper Woods; and 12 brothers and sisters.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Emmet County Medical Care Facility in Harbor Springs.

Arrangements were handled by the Schiller Funeral Chapel of Harbor Springs.
