Reva Atkalns, 77, of Petoskey, died Jan. 7, 2006, at Northern Michigan Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey with chaplain Larry Funk officiating. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of service.
Reva was born in Petoskey on June 20, 1928, the daughter of Charles and Beatrice (Chattaway) Hitchings, and graduated from Petoskey High School in 1946.
On June 5, 1955, she married Vilnis Atkalns in Petoskey and he survives. Reva worked for many years at the Gidley and Brudy Drug Store, and later at the Brock-Eckel and Walenta drug stores. In her later years, she was employed by Shorter's Gift Shop.
Reva enjoyed her flowers and watching the many birds and animals outside her kitchen window.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Vilnis; a sister, Connie (Carl) Lawrence, of Frederick; four sisters-in-law, Bea Hitchings of Petoskey, Dorothy Hitchings of Grand Rapids, Marie Hitchings of Swartz Creek and Sylvia Sydow of Chicago; as well as by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Charles Jr., Arthur “Bud” and Gerald Hitchings; and by two sisters, Margaret “Peg” and Christine Hitchings.
Arrangements are in the care of the Stone Funeral Home.
