Petoskey News-Review, Monday, 17 May 2004:
Robert Melching, 72, of Bliss Township, went home to be with his Lord May 15, 2004.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey. Pastor Robert Anderson will officiate.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, at the funeral home.
Robert was born Sept. 21, 1931, in Harbor Springs, the son of Wilbur and Marie (Spencer) Melching. He attended Harbor Springs schools and graduated in 1949.
On Sept. 22, 1951, he married Ruth Bayha and the couple have made their home in the Carp Lake area ever since.
He worked at several area businesses before working for the Emmet County Road Commission for 33 years.
Robert was a member of Victory Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee and an adult Sunday school teacher. During his 50s, he ran numerous triathlons. He was an avid nature lover and enjoyed observing wildlife and working in his garden.
Robert is survived by his wife and his children, Anna Rohrbacher (Russell) of Fort Collins, Colo., Mary Cooper (Craig) of Alanson, Leslie Scheen (Alan) of Lachine, Mich., Betty Emmons (Paul) of Riverview, Mich., Bill Melching (Theresa) of Greenville, Mich., Robert Melching (Bridget) of Levering. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and his brother, Richard and his wife, Delores, of Cheboygan; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to Victory Baptist Church.
Arrangements were handled by Schiller Funeral Home of Harbor Springs.
