Sarah Ellen Philips was born December 2, 1878 in Akron, Tuscola, Michigan.
Her parents are Lloyd D. Philips and Nancy Ann Vaughn.
Her siblings are William Augustus, Charles Edward and Lucy B. Philips.
She also had 5 half siblings: Roxie, Frederick Wesley, Pearl, Harry and Hazel M. Hunn.
Sarah married first John B. Overholt on April 15, 1895 in Vanderbilt, Otsego, Michigan.
They had one daughter Anna E. Overholt born in 1897.
In the 1900 Federal Census she is listed as a widow in Chandler Twp., Charlevoix, Michigan.
Sarah married second James Milton Howse on 4 April 1905 in Gaylord, Otsego, Michigan.
Their children are Eisey May, Melvin Earl, Myrtle Sina, Charles Adelbert, Sylvia Pauline and Clifford Leroy Howse.
Sarah helped raise Raymond Leslie House, one of two sons of James from his first marriage.
She was a well thought of midwife in Harbor Springs, Michigan. She was a member of the Harbor Springs Methodist Church.
Sarah died of cancer the 12th of October 1955 in Petoskey, Emmet, Michigan. She was buried in the Lakeview Cemetery in Harbor Springs, Michigan.

Services for Sarah Ellen Howse, 77, Harbor Springs, who died at Little Traverse Hospital Wednesday after being in poor health for three years, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday from the Harbor Springs Methodist church.
She was the widow of James M. Howse.
Mrs. Howse was born Dec. 2, 1877 in Sanilac County and was married in 1903 at Wolverine.
They moved to Pellston, then to Harbor Springs 42 years ago.
Surviving are three sons, Melvin of Lansing, Delbert of Overpeck, Ohio, and Clifford of Harbor Springs; two daughters, Mrs. Denton Ward of Harbor Springs and Mrs. Sylvia Reed of Alanson: two stepsons, James Milton and Raymond Howse both of Lansing; four sisters, Mrs. Delbert Woolever and Mrs. Clarence Baker of Batavia N.Y., Mrs. George West of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Jasper Kymer of Battle Creek.
The body is at the Erwin Funeral Parlor where friends may call between 7:30 & 9 p.m.; Friday. Burial is to be in Lakeview Cemetery.
