On Friday, June 16, 2006, Theresa E. O'Neil of Petoskey passed away at Otsego Memorial Hospital; she was 76.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, at St. Francis Church in Petoskey. The Rev. Dennis Stilwell will celebrate Mass and interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
Theresa was born July 31, 1929, in Petoskey to Carl and Margaret L. (Kowalski) Petrowski.
On May 7, 1949, she married John O'Neil Jr. at St. Francis Xavier Church. Together they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage.
Theresa was to her family as close to perfect as any wife or mom could be. She was completely devoted to her family; "selfless and loving," are the two words Theresa's family have chosen that most accurately describe her character. Her best times were spent with her children and grandchildren around her, cooking, and baking for holidays and family get-togethers; or simply taking a quiet Sunday ride with her husband, John. She kept a wonderful home, where everyone was welcome. Holidays were a very special time to Theresa and she took great pleasure in decorating her home for all the seasons, in particular Halloween and Christmas.
Theresa is survived by her husband, John, and by their children, John C. (Joyce) O'Neil, Dennis W. (Mona) O'Neil and Jeanette (Carney) Russell; and her grandchildren including, Cory O'Neil, Jennifer Russell and Breanna O'Neil. Also surviving Theresa are her brother, Leo (Betty) Petrowski; sister, Marion Swadling; and sisters-in-law, Caroline Petrowski, Eleanor Petrowski; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Theresa in death were her brothers, George, Edward, Raymond, Joseph and Arthur, and sister, Irene Daniels.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, June 20, at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey.
Friends wishing to honor Theresa's memory with a memorial contribution may consider the American Cancer Society.
