Petoskey Evening News, Wednesday, Jine 26, 1918
William Henry Pope, widely known throughout the Oden section as "Uncle Henry," died at about 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the home of a son; E. H. Pope, at Oden.
He was eight-four years old and had been confined to his bed for about a year. Mrs. Pope died fourteen years ago.
Mr. Pope was a Civil war veteran. He enlisted early in the war. In the 101st Ohio volunteer infantry and served three years. His home was in Ottawa county, Ohio, and he resided there until he moved to Oden twenty-six years ago. He followed the trade of carpenter both in Ohio and after coming to this region, and erected many summer homes on Crooked lake, especially at Oden and Cincinnati Point.
Four sons and one daughter survive; E. H. Pope and Aylmer Pope of Oden; Frank Pope ,f Alanson; Norman Pope of McGull, Ohio, and Mrs. Myria Patterson, of Leachville, Ark.
Funeral at 4 o'clock Thursday from the E. H. Pope home. Rev. G. A. Weaver in charge.
Burial in Hitchings cemetery.
