Edward Stanley Petrowski, 86

Edward Stanley Petrowski, 86, of Petoskey, died Jan. 5, 2000, at Bortz Health Care of Petoskey.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at Stone Funeral Home, Petoskey. The Rev. Casey Smith of Parr Memorial Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Ed was born Nov. 8, 1913, in Chicago, Ill., son of Carl and Margaret (Kowalski) Petrowski. The family moved to the Petoskey area when Ed was a small child. He grew up and attended school in Petoskey.

Ed entered the U.S. Army in February 1942, serving as a driver for the 351st infantry regiment 88th infantry division. During his time in the Army, Ed served in the North African/Middle Eastern Theater of operations as well as in Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star.

On May 17, 1948, Ed married Caroline Figiel at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Elmira. For several years, Ed worked for Penn Dixie Cement Company. He also worked for Howe Leather Company in Boyne City as well as Chimney Corners restaurant in Petoskey until he retired in the mid 1970s.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and wood carving. Ed also enjoyed music and could play several instruments including the piano, organ, guitar and harmonica. Above all, Ed enjoyed spending time with his family and in later years especially his grandchildren.

Ed is survived by his wife, Caroline, and their children, Joanie Friske (Herbert) of Petoskey, Diane Barnadyn (Ronald) of Boyne City, Don (Marsha), Frank (Sherry), Adam (Lorie), Ruth (Gene) Barnadyn and Mary Petrowski, all of Petoskey; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Daniel, Theresa O'Neil, Marion Swadling; brothers, Leo and Joseph; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers as well as daughter, Dorothy.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 6, at the funeral home.
