Shirley E. (Moser) Barnes, 81, died on November 26, 2010 in Sun City, Arizona.
Shirley was born on August 1, 1929 in Bassano, Alberta, Canada to Earl and Mamie Moser. She grew up in Harbor Springs and graduated from Harbor Springs High School in 1947. She graduated from Cleary College in Ypsilanti, MI. in 1948.
She married Gilbert T. Barnes on June 25, 1950 in the First Methodist Church of Harbor Springs. Gilbert died 20 days before their 46th wedding anniversary on June 5, 1996 in Tucson, Arizona where they lived in retirement.
Shirley retired from High Scope Educational Research Foundation in Ypsilanti in 1989. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in both Harbor Springs and Ypsilanti for many years.
She is survived by her four children, Janice K. Huff, Diane M.B. DeBoer, Steven G. Barnes, and Cheryl E. Maslowski. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Kristie L. Cupitt and Lisa G. Barnes, and two nieces, Mary Sue Farris and Annette M. Stravino also survive. Her aunt A. Minerva (Moser) Gardner still survives at 100 years.
A family graveside service will be held next summer at Lakeview Cemetery, Harbor Springs. Memorial donations in Shirley’s name may be made to the United Methodist Church of Harbor Springs, 343 E. Main St or to the American Heart Association.
